Can you grow grass in Winter in Australia?
In general, you’ll get success when sowing lawn seed in Winter. But it's important to know that lower soil temperatures will affect the germination time and the variety to choose.
Up in the north of Australia, where it’s warm, it’s business as usual for sowing. Soil temps are higher so germinations times don’t vary too much. As a rough guide, you can choose from Warm Season grasses like Couch and Kikuyu if you are North of Brisbane.
South of Brisbane it's ideal to choose a blend which can include a ryegrass plus a warm season variety e.g our All Season Couch or All Season Kikuyu.. or choose cool season grasses to oversow.
Down in the southern locations of Australia, soil temperatures are much lower. But it's still possible to sow lawn seed!
Choose cool season varieties or blends for success.
