Tips for Autumn Lawns
Autumn in Australia means a break from the extreme heat and time to enjoy the lawn with cooler days and evenings. It's also a great time to complete a few simple lawn jobs to get it in tip top shape.
Here is what you need to do this Autumn:
1. Established lawns need fertilising twice in Autumn. Complete this once at the start of autumn and repeat 6-8 weeks later. You can read our Fertilising Tips here.
All Seasons Fertiliser - easy to apply twice this Autumn for a big colour boost and overall health improvement. Fertilise with a high analysis product like our Landscape Range All Seasons Fertiliser.
2. Overseed your lawn to repair any summer damage or worn patches. Use either an annual ryegrass or a perennial ryegrass blend to give really good colour.
Cool Cover Annual Ryegrass - use this to oversow warm season lawns like buffalo, couch and kikuyu
All Winter Green Blend - use this perennial blend to oversow all lawn types
Other options for overseeding or new Autumn Lawns:
3. Top dressing your lawn is easy and effective in stimulating new growth. Apply a mixture (usually made up of peat loam and sand) over your lawn. Top dressing stimulates new shoots, promotes runners and encourages denser growth of grass.
4. Aerate or spike your lawn in Autumn with a fork. It’s simple and easy to do and will improve soil drainage and stimulate the growth of new roots. Push the fork down with 30cm spaces allowing water and nutrients to enter the roots quickly and more effectively.
