10 steps to the perfect lawn

1.       If you take the time to prepare the soil before sowing your lawn seed you’ll get a better result.   Remove stones and debris, allow for good drainage, dig deep, aerate the soil and don’t remove too much top soil!

2.       Keep your lawn weed free by over sowing a lawn area around Early April to May.  The result will be good grass cover and less area for weed invasion.

3.       Water your lawn only when required.  Deep watering and watering less frequently promotes a deeper root system and a healthier lawn.

4.       Fertilise your lawn twice each during the autumn and spring months for a great result.

5.       Give some thought to how you water throughout the seasons.  It’s important!  Be sure not to water too much in winter and also in the heat of summer when water can run off.

6.       Watch your mowing heights and change them depending on the season. Lifting the heights of your lawn mower in summer takes the stress off the turf.

7.       Aeration promotes new growth and eliminates the old and ‘thatchy’ grass types. Oxygen to the soil promotes roots with ability to take up moisture and nutrients.

8.       Where possible, try to spread high traffic areas around so the same turf areas aren’t always in use. Move your backyard cricket spot regularly to ensure the wear is even.

9.       Keep your lawn weed free with a Herbicide application. By applying the correct broadleaf spray at the label rate, you can knock weeds around before they germinate.
