How to fix them?  By overseeding your lawn! 

 

 

 

Overseeding your lawn has many benefits as it can rejuvenate your lawn, fix bare patches as well as reduce space for weeds: Overall it's great for increasing the health of your lawn.  

 

HOW TO OVERSEED YOUR LAWN:  

PREPARATION:  

  1. Mow lawn closely. Remove any leaves or debris from the surface of the lawn before mowing. 
  2. Rake the lawn to remove the dead matted grass or thatch.  
  3. If your ground is hard or compacted, loosen it up by spiking with a fork. This will improve root growth and drainage.  

SEED:  

  1. Choose your Lawn Seed. Ideally you should try to choose the same type of seed as your existing lawn. Shop for Seed. 
  2. Follow the recommended sowing rate. Sowing rates for you to work out how much seed you need. You can find out how to calculate your sowing rate here. If you're overseeding you can half the new lawn sowing rate.
  3. You can sow your seed by hand or with a spreader. For small areas use a handheld spreader like this one. For larger areas you can use a push broadcast spreader like this. To ensure an even lawn the seed should be sown in two directions at right angles. 

FEED AND WATER:  

  1. Spread a good quality Starter Fertiliser. Landscape Range KickStart Fertiliser is ideal for ensuring successful germination. 
  2. Then follow with Landscape Range All Season Reno Fertiliser after 6-8 weeks. 
  3. Water regularly with a fine spray keeping the seedbed constantly moist. After establishment it’s best to water deeply to ensure a deeper root system. 
  4. Mow on a high cut when the grass is 40-50mm. Trim lightly and gradually lower blades to an ideal cutting height of 25-30mm. Mow regularly trying not to remove more than 1/3 of the growth at any time.
